Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall
Isn’t it funny how everyone seems to complain when a certain season is here (too hot, too cold, etc) and when that season ends and the reality of the change sets in they immediately miss it? I don’t get it. As long as there’s not feet of snow around me I’m good to go. How about you?
This last month has been a whirlwind. First, I got my first actual piece of hate mail. That was cool. This particularly illiterate person used enough profanity to make a sailor proud as he repeatedly berated me for signing him up over and and over for my mailing list. Talk about a big ego! First, I don’t know this person. Second, he signed up- one of those freebie seekers who never buys anything. Third- once someone unsubscribes from the mailing list I don’t have the ability to re-add them. The system won’t let me, even if I wanted to. Apparently he didn’t understand that and sent a few more rather rude emails. (Naturally I responded in kind, reverting back to my army days when I was paid to be mean.)
After that we rolled into a kidney stone ordeal that has lasted the better part of an entire month. Holy cow! I thought it was just back pain at first but then it felt like I was being stabbed. Fortunately for me, the stone was too big to pass so I had to get some emergency surgery. Did I win?
But little can keep me down- though I freely admit that pushed me to the edge. PSA- don’t get kidney stones!
Last weekend I rolled over to Winston-Salem for the annual Bookmarks Book Festival. This is almost a waste of time since the organizers use it to funnel sales to their store and generally shove authors aside unless it benefits them. Last year, through no fault of my own, I only sold 2 books. 2… all day. For a ridiculously high buy in cost I let them know my displeasure in no uncertain terms.
This year was my last shot at this event. It went better but not as good as it could have. The people were friendly. The weather awesome. I broke even and that’s that. Next up is Fayetteville Comicon in Oct. Can’t wait for that one!
In the meantime, I’m jumping on this awesome giveaway/email list signup. Everyone who enters gets every single book for free and the chance to win an awesome prize at the end. You really have nothing to lose!
